Well we have made it to the freight room and if you haven't noticed it is quite cold in here in April. After passing through the concrete area you are now going to find yourself on the hard wood floors in which the workers would stand on. A definite distinction for the workers and the shoppers/miners. Woman were never allowed back here in the freight room area. Except for the children of the managers and workers, I haven't met anyone yet who was back here before the 30's. As the picture depicts this was a hand operated elevator that moved items from the basement to the 3rd floor. We still use this means of transport today. It makes things easier than hauling materials up the stairway. The rope was cut and taped when we acquired the building. It makes it unable to operate the elevator from the basement. It has to be worked from here and the 3rd floor ballroom. If you happen to know of anyone who wishes to donate a rope please have them contact me. We are in the market for one. Stay with us!
Day 4 we will visit the grain room
